Debbie Frost has been drawn to the outdoors and has seen it at its most raw state since her childhood while camping in places like Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Michigan, to name a few. “As far back as I can remember, I have been drawn to the outdoors,” says Frost. “Even now I live in a rural area where I can ride my horses and observe the local wildlife.” She maintains her home and studio in Griffin, Georgia with husband, Larry. Through the years, Frost has raised and showed Appaloosa horses, Borzois and Samoyeds. She currently owns 9 horses, three rescued cats, two Irish Setters, and a Golden Retriever.
Frost knows her subjects well. She had many close encounters with elk, moose, mountain lions, and bears while living in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana. “Most people,” she says, “never get the chance to sit on the side of a mountain picking huckleberries in the middle of a bear patch, or observe a cow moose teach her calf the luxuries of a hot spring, or watch elk play tag in a clearing, or fly fish a blue ribbon trout stream with eagles swooping from above. One of the reasons I paint is to share those experiences.”
Debbie is a self-taught artist, painting in oils, and has completed hundreds of canine, equine, and wildlife commissions for many prominent collectors. Her artwork has appeared in international and national shows including the prestigious “Art Show At The Dog Show” in Kansas City, “A Portrait of America” in Minneapolis for the 2008 Republican Convention, and has won numerous awards including a Best In Show, People’s Choice, Judge’s Choice, Visitor’s Choice and she illustrated the Five Valley Kennel Club Book.
