"As far back as I can remember, I have been drawn to the outdoors," says artist Debbie Frost. "Even now I live in a rural area where I can ride my horses and observe the local wildlife." She maintains her home and studio in Georgia with husband, Larry. She currently owns 9 horses with babies on the way, three cats, and a rescued Irish Setter named Bailey.
Frost knows her subjects well. She had many close encounters with elk, moose, mountain lions, and bears while living in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana for 16 years. "Most people," she says, "never get the chance to sit on the side of a mountain watching a bear quietly feeding on elderberries and huckleberries, or sit for hours watching elk play tag in a clearing, or observe a cow moose teach her calf the luxuries of a hot spring. One of the reasons I paint is to share those experiences."
Through the years, Frost has raised and showed Appaloosa horses, Borzois and Samoyeds. She has completed hundreds of canine, equine, and wildlife commissions for many prominent collectors including 26 dogs who won Best of Breed at Westminster from 1989 - 1996, and she illustrated the Five Valley Kennel Club Book. Frost paintings have won numerous awards including a Best In Show, People's Choice, and have appeared in international shows including the prestigious Art Show At The Dog Show in Kansas City. During a long and varied career she has also pursued a successful career in advertising and designing company logos before returning to her first love - painting wildlife.
